چکیده

Nanoparticles and nanotechnology have been applied in agriculture, including for plant nutrition improvement, and pest control. Little research has been conducted on nano-calcium carbonate in plant protection and nutrition. In this study, we compared the effects of nano-calcium carbonate and colloidal calcium carbonate and found that nano-calcium carbonate treatments were better at increasing calcium content when sprayed on Tankan (Citrus tankan) leaves. Field tests on California red scale (Aonidiella aurantii) and Oriental fruit flies (Bactrocera dorsalis) both showed that nano-calcium yielded better control rates. Moreover, bioassays of Oriental fruit flies conducted using calcium carbonate particles yielded lower LC50 values for nano-calcium. Additionally, nano-calcium performed better in terms of protection efficacy against oviposition punctures from Oriental fruit flies on the Indian jujube. Nano-calcium yielded better overall results than colloidal calcium for fertilization, plant protection, and pest control. © Pesticide Science Society of Japan

Tolerance: the forgotten child of plant resistance

Plant resistance against insect herbivory has greatly focused on antibiosis, whereby the plant has a deleterious effect on the herbivore, and antixenosis, whereby the plant is able to direct the herbivore away from it. Although these two types of resistance may reduce injury and yield loss, they can produce selection pressures on insect herbivores that lead to pest resistance. Tolerance, on the...

ISSUES IN AGRICULTURAL AND FOREST ENTOMOLOGY Mycorrhizal fungi as mediators of defence against insect pests in agricultural systems

1 Below-ground organisms influence above-ground interactions in both natural and agricultural ecosystems. Among the most important below-ground organisms are mycorrhizal fungi, comprising ubiquitous and ancient plant mutualists that have significant effects on plant growth and fitness mediated by resource exchange with plants. In the present study, we focus on the effects of arbuscular mycorrhi...

Effect of in ovo Injection of Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles on Bone Post Hatched Characteristics and Broiler Chicken Performance

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of in ovo injection (IOI) of calcium carbonate nano-particles (CCN) on post-hatch bone and blood parameters and performance of broiler chickens. Fertile eggs (n=400) were distributed into 4 groups of 100 eggs. On the first day of incubation, 2 groups were injected with 0.5 mL of either 100 or 200 ppm CCN/egg dissolved in normal saline and two...

Ethanol assisted synthesis of pure and stable amorphous calcium carbonate nanoparticles.

Stable monodispersed amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC) nanoparticles can be synthesized in ethanol media by a facile method, and crystallization of ACC is kinetically controlled, resulting in the formation of three polymorphs in a mixed solvent of ethanol-water at different pH values.
